Base Camp

FIRST BUILD

Our first prototype, nestled
in the woods.

Base Camp is our proof of concept, and you can spend the night in it. A complete Base I in Racine in the Eastern Townships (QC), built with the same design, the same materials, and the same builders who’ll work on your home.

THE DETAILS

Every detail, up close.

More with less. Fewer materials, fewer finishes, fewer decisions, but every one carefully chosen and meant to last.

Performance

What our first build taught us.

Base Camp was our first chance to put the Base Build System to the test in the real world. We ran a blower door test on the finished house to measure how much air it leaks. The result confirmed what we set out to prove: simple, natural materials, carefully assembled, can perform remarkably well.

Airtightness, measured on site
0.25–0.29
ACH @ 50 Pa
Base Camp
0.25–0.29
Passive House target
0.6
Typical new build
3–5
Home built in the ’80s
~10
2Xtighter than the Passive House requirement
15–20Xtighter than a typical new build
40Xtighter than a home built in the ’80s

The lower the number, the better. Less air leakage means calmer, steadier temperatures, lower heating costs, a quieter interior and a shell that lasts longer. Every Base home builds on what we learned here.

EXPERIENCE IT

Come see for yourself.

Base Camp is living proof of what Base stands for. Here are a few ways to check it out.

Book a stay

Stay at Base Camp through BESIDE. Cook, sleep, feel the difference. The best way to understand a Base is to live in one.
